Paul Benson, D.O.
The Prevalence, Treatment and Prevention of HIV
Paul Benson, D.O. has been affiliated with St. John Oakland hospital since 1980 after completing his residency there. In fact, he was the first family practice resident to complete the program at the hospital. He has served as Vice Chief of Staff and currently presides as president of the St. John Oakland Physician Organization; a position he has held for many years. He is credentialed as an HIV specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine, and is a Certified Research Professional designated by the Society of Clinical Research Associates.
He has maintained a private practice, the Be Well Medical Center, in Berkley since 1981. He and his dedicated staff provide primary care with special attention and detail to sensitivity for all lifestyles in an atmosphere of non-discrimination. The clinic also conducts several drug investigational studies.
Dr. Benson lectures on many topics related to HIV around the country. He was selected to be on an elite team of speakers lecturing on chemoprophylaxis prevention of HIV. Dr. Benson speaks on recognizing, discussing and treating, HIV to medical students, residents, and physicians.
Among other awards, Dr. Benson received the Paul Harris Fellowship award from Rotary International for outstanding leadership and community service in 1985.
